Doing an internship was something I always looked forward to because I wanted to know what it actually feels like to work in a real-world environment. During my summer break after my 12th board exams, I got an opportunity to intern with a local startup that focused on digital marketing and content creation. At first, I didn’t know much about the field, but I was excited and open to learn new things.
In the beginning, everything seemed a bit too much with meeting new people, new expectations and new tools. But I am thankful, the team was supportive and patient. Initially, I was assigned with small tasks like creating captions for social media posts by helping with basic designs on Canva, and writing short blog pieces for their website.
During the internship, one of the biggest things I learned was how to work with deadlines. I understood the difference that in school we used to get some flexibility, but in the workplace, timing is everything. I had to finish tasks on time and still make sure the quality was good. This helped me to improve my time management skills and taught me to double-check my work before submitting. It taught me the value of consistency and attitude.
Another important learning was team communication. I wasn’t used to writing professional emails or giving updates regularly. But within a week, I became more confident in sharing my progress and asking for help when I was stuck. I realised that communication isn’t just about speaking well, it’s about being clear and respectful too.
This experience showed me that learning doesn’t always happen in classrooms. I’m really thankful I got this chance so early in my journey, and I hope to keep exploring different roles and industries in the future to see what suits me best.
